About the CALMER Kids Program

CALMER is an evidence-based emotion regulation program for children ages 9-12 with ADHD symptoms. This program was developed by Dr. Lauren Haack (UCSF), Dr. Alicia Nijdam-Jones (University of Manitoba) and Dr. Aya Williams (Santa Clara University). It consists of a regulation program for children ages 9-12 with ADHD symptoms. The CALMER program was developed by Dr. Lauren Haack, Dr. Alicia Nijdam-Jones, and Dr. Aya Williams. The program consists of three modules: emotion regulation, learning and organization, and communication. Delivered through remote sessions with families, CALMER was designed to be accessible and effective for children and parents, particularly during the stressors of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has shown promising pilot outcomes in improving socioemotional skills and ADHD-related functioning.

The Current Study

The goal of this study is to implement a multilingual adaptation of the CALMER program for children with ADHD symptoms. The purpose is to assess whether this multilingual protocol would be equally feasible, engaging, and effective for multilingual children with ADHD in comparison to the original English-only protocol. To maximize implementation and feasibility across contexts, multilingual CALMER program will use machine-facilitated (e.g., AI) translations to create handouts, audio, and videos for multilingual children and families.
